Location:

On the East side of the community you will find the Baltimore Harbor that helped to give Federal Hill its name. From the Inner Harbor, the neighborhood’s prominent hill can be easily seen; this hill is now part of the Federal Hill Park that runs alongside the Harbor. Federal Hill is part of the South Baltimore Penninsula and is located between Hanover Street to the West, Cross Street to the South, the Harbor to the East, and Hughes Street and Key Highway to the East and North.

Where should I eat?

Are you in the mood for a great burger and maybe even some Arsenal soccer on early mornings? The Abbey Burger Bistro is centrally located in Federal Hill and offers a wide variety of specialty burgers ranging from kangaroo meat and camel to locally farmed black angus beef. Want a burger but traveling with a vegetarian or vegan? Don’t worry about bringing them here as Abbey’s proudly serves vegertarian and vegan options. This is a great place to grab a pint of local or Belgian beer and is a stones throw away from both the Baltimore Ravens Stadium and legendary Camden Yards, home of the Baltimore Orioles.

Also prevalent in the community is the Blue Agave Restaurant which is an authentic Mexican restaurant with great food and over 130 labels of tequila. All sauces, salsas, and moles are made in house daily, and their sour mixes for their margaritas are made with fresh citrus juice. Authentic and freshly made with a side of incredible tequila, sounds like a great place to unwind after a tough week of work, or to jumpstart a weekend!

Are there parks nearby?

The Federal Hill Park has a view of the city that is widely regarded as one of the best. The park also features a pair of replica canons in the place where real ones once stood that defended the City of Baltimore from the British in the War of 1812. This is a quiet, and peaceful park located alongside the Baltimore Harbor and is a great spot to exercise, practice yoga, or to bring your lunch down too.

 What is there to do?

One of the most unique museums in the country is located in Federal Hill, the American Visionary Art Musuem, which proudly displays art from self-taught artists and excels in showcasing “raw art.” The 67,000 square foot museum is home to well over 4,000 exhibits that test the boundaries of art. Since 1995, this one of a kind museum sees over 100,000 visitors annually.

Once a month, you can sign up to receive a guided tour of the Federal Hill neighborhood and soak in all of the rich history the area has to offer. The “Federal Hill Beyond the Views: A Monumental City Tour” will bring you to all of the fampous parts of the community. Where the celebrated the signing of the United States Constitution, where they fought off the British in 1812, and even where the Union Army stayed to ensure Maryland stayed part of the country during the Civil War, and so much more. The aforementioned Federal Hill Park is home to so much of our country’s history while also offering incredible views of Baltimore and the Harbor.

The Cross Street Market, which first opened in 1846 as a fresh food market is still going strong and is currently going through a $7.3 million upgrade to keep serving the people of Federal Hill and Baltimore for a long time.
