Patterson Park, founded by William Patterson, a former Revolutionary War hero, is another one of Baltimore City’s historic neighborhoods. Patterson owned a large portion of the land that would become Patterson Park neighborhood and Patterson Park. The neighborhood features many Renaissance Revival style homes, and like many Baltimore neighborhoods, had a drop off in care during the 1990’s only to begin a revitalization process in recent years to preserve the history of the neighborhood.

Patterson Park is in the southeast section of the city, and is bordered by the park of the same name on the north and east sides. The neighborhood is bordered by Fayette Street to the north, Pratt Street to the South, Milton Street to the west, and Clinton Street to the East. In 2011, the Patterson Park Neighborhood Association expanded the northern border to Orleans Street between Milton and Curley Streets.

Where should I eat? 

Patterson Park the neighborhood and the park itself is an area that is surrounded by incredible local spots to eat. One of the best spots in the community is Taqueria El Sabor del Parque, a hole in the wall Mexican place that serves authentic meals for a budget friendly price. The locals love the cozy atmosphere of this place and love the unique soda flavors. If you stop by here be sure to try the guacamole, which is a fan favorite. The restaurant is open seven days a week and is open each and every day from 10am through 9pm.

Patterson Park is home to a lot of great Mexican restaurants beyond Taqueria El Sabor del Parque. Another great option is Tijuana Tacos and Deli, which serves traditional Mexican fare and imported sodas that are served in a cozy and warm environment. The Baltimore community loves the great menu and friendly staff. People tend to love the carne asada plate and Mexican shrimp cocktail. The enchiladas are a treat as well! You can never go wrong with the tacos here. This place is open seven days a week and stays open from 10am until 10pm each day except for Friday and Saturday where you can get authentic Mexican cuisine for an extra hour until 11pm.

If you are not into Mexican food or are looking to get a taste of the neighborhood you should head to Patterson Public House where you can get comfort foods, great beer, and sit out on a patio and enjoy the beautiful day. Here the locals love the patio in the nicer weather months, the people love the staff and the prices, as well as the great atmosphere. The Patterson Public House is open six days a week, closed on Mondays, and is open for dinner through late night on Tuesday through Firday 5pm through 10pm, except on Thursday and Friday until 11pm. On the weekend the public house opens for brunch, on Saturday the hours are 11am through 3:30 pm, and then they close for an hour, and reopen from 4:30 through 11pm. On Sunday, they open from 10:30 through 3pm, and they reopen an hour later for the dinner rush at 4pm and run through 11pm. 

Are there parks nearby? 

Patterson Park is not just a great community, but also a historic park. The park was established in 1827, during the life of William Patterson. The park has an abundance of things for a family or an individual to do ranging from historic battlefields, to open fields for you to have lunch, to beautiful and unique trees, there are paved walkways and a lake. There are playgrounds for children and athletic fields. As well as the signature attractions and buildings and a swimming pool to beat the heat on hot summer days. While this park is not the largest in Patterson Park, it has been referred to as “Baltimore’s Best Backyard.”

What places should I visit?

When you visit the Patterson Park you should spend some time at the Patterson Park Pagoda, which serves the community from mid-April until mid-October and is staffed by the Friends of Patterson Park and other volunteers. From the top the the pagoda you can see all over the city from the downtown area to the Key Bridge all the way to Fort McHenry, which has played a major part in American history.
