More About
Harborview, Baltimore
Location:
As an old shipyard, this neighborhood is almost exclusively alongside the Baltimore Harbor. This neighborhood is on the edge of the Federal Hills community and is up against the harbor. On the west side you will see the Federal Hills Park that provides some of the best views in the entire city.
Where should I eat?
Harborview may be a new community in name, but it has some of the best long-standing restaurants in all of Baltimore. Like the Italian restaurant Di Pasquale’s Harborview, which is both a restaurant where you can pair a traditional Italian dinner or lunch with a great wine, and there is a traditional Italian deli alongside the restaurant that bares the same family name. Sit on the water and enjoy a nice dinner from the over one century old restaurant that has kept Baltimore residents well fed for generations.
If Italian isn’t your thing, or you are on the run and looking for something fast, Harborview has an excellent Mexican restaurant called Tacos Tolteca. This authentic Mexican cuisine is delicious and fast as this place excels in carryout tacos to give you a quick in and out experience.
If it’s not Mexican or Italian, you should take a look at Samos Restaurant. Authentic Greek and Mediterranean food since 1977. This place is a real throwback as it is cash only and takes no reservations. It is bring your own beer, so swing by with a six pack and enjoy a staple of Harborview before there was even a Harborview.
Are there parks nearby?
Yes, one of the best local parks is the Federal Hill Park, which features replicas of cannons used to repel British forces in the War of 1812 which helped to save Baltimore from being overrun, and the area where the park is was critical to Union forces in ensuring that Maryland remained with the United States during the Civil War. This park is along the waterfront and is an excellent place to excerise, perform yoga or Tai Chi on relaxing days, or even bring some of those excellent tacos from Tacos Teltoca over and have a picnic by the water’s edge.
You can also enjoy watching the ships come in and out of the harbor as the marina is still active, as is the shipyard. Access to the Harbor provides for a great backdrop on any run or bike ride throughout the community. The waterways provide an excellent place to have picnics or to enjoy a beautiful day with your favorite book.
What is there to do?
Head on over to the marina and watch the ships come in! See Baltimore’s history alongside the water. Enjoy many of the beautiful restaurants alongside the harbor and eat, drink, and be merry as you enjoy some of the best food and hospitality that Baltimore has to offer. This new community is highly walkable and rideable for runners and bikers alike to enjoy all of the new features that Harborview has on the horizon as the neighborhood continues to grow and expand quickly as more and more people look to move into the Baltimore area.
What places should I visit?
In the surrounding area you should be sure to enjoy the Federal Hills Park and the great history of Baltimore and the United States. The beautiful marina and active shipyard will give anyone who loves the great outdoors and the big beautiful ships that come in and out of them a tremendous show.
