Roland Park, developed between 1890 and 1920, can be best described as the United States of America’s first planned suburban community. It was one of the most modern developments in the country when it created several feet of modern amenities at the time, including electricity throughout the neighborhood, and gas for cooking and lighting. There were artisan water wells dug up to 500 feet, roughly 50,000 feet of water mains, 50,000 feet of roadways, and 100,000 feet of sidewalks.

More About
Roland Park, Baltimore

Location:

Roland Park is in the northwest portion of the City of Baltimore. It is located in an irregular pattern between Belvedere Avenue, Falls Road, 39thStreet, and Stoney Run.

Where should I eat?

The suburb of Roland Park is home to many incredible restaurants that share some of the world’s best cuisine with the people of Baltimore. One of the best upscale places in the city is a French restaurant called the Petit Louis Bistro, which is a cozy place that offers the best in bistro fare and wines, and features a fixed price lunch menu and a tremendous happy hour. Here the locals can’t get enough of the traditionally French atmosphere, the charming wait staff, and the almost overwhelming selection of French wines. Petit Louis Bistro is open seven days a week, but only five of them to serve lunch. The establishment is dinner only on Monday and Saturday opening at 5pm and staying open until 10pm and 11pm respectively. During the week, the fixed price lunch menu is available from 11:30 until 2pm, and then the restaurant closes until 5pm when it reopens for the dinner rush and remains open until 10pm. On Sunday, the bistro opens for lunch and remains open until 2pm, and then closes for dinner until 5pm where it stays open again until 9pm.

If French bistro is not what you are looking for on your trip to the Baltimore region, you can count on Johnny’s for a great West Coast American meal with the traditional influences by Mexican and Asian cuisines. This is another upscale restaurant that also offers great coffee, wine, and unique cocktails. The locals love the unique interior to the restaurant as well as the excellent atmosphere and attentive serving staff. Johnny’s is open seven days a week for breakfast all the way through dinner. On weekdays the restaurant opens at 8am and stays open through 10pm. On the weekends they have 12 hour days from 10am through 10pm on Saturdays and 9am through 9pm on Sundays.

Maybe you want a spot that is open for brunch and you want pancakes worse than anyone in history. Miss Shirley’s Café is a breakfast only place that features a pancake of the month special and uses only all local ingredients and features outdoor seating. The locals love the gluten free pancakes almost as much as they love the atmosphere and staff! If you are in the mood for some lunch you can also get a trio salad of chicken, tuna, and cole slaw platter that people love as well! Miss Shirley’s Café makes sure you can get your pancakes seven days a week, from 7ma through 3pm on weekdays and on weekdays there is a slight change to the hours from 7:30am through 3:30pm.

Are there parks nearby?

If you are looking for a great outdoor activity in Roland Park, the community has an incredible disc golf area where you can spend an afternoon getting a light sweat on and enjoying the company of your friends as you throw the Frisbee around. We recommend calling first as it is a private club and attempting to gain access that way.

What places should I visit?

The Clyburn Arboretum is a beautiful park, which has over 20 gardens, features trees that have lived for over centuries and contains a mansion from the Civil War era. You can also find a nature museum located on the grounds here. You can learn about all of the unique tree and botanical life here and much, if not all, of the park is a wonderful place to have a picnic or take great photographs of all of the plant life. This is a great place to go and detox from the busyness of the City of Baltimore and enjoy some peace and tranquility without being too far from home.
