This wonderful Hampden home is a great mix of classic and modern, original charm and new updates, is close to the action yet serene and quiet, has huge rooms and also intimate spaces. You can have it all on Elm Avenue! Located just a stone's throw from the famous Avenue on 36th Street - with its vibrant restaurants, shops, bars, activities, festivals, and more. This home is beyond convenient - it feels woven into what makes the neighborhood so desirable. Conversely , once inside a sense of calm washes over. The spacious, tree-shaded front porch is a lovely place to chat with guests and neighbors over some refreshments. The large, light filled living room is perfect for relaxing, movie watching and book reading. You'll be surprised how big this home is! The original staircase adds a sense of classic Baltimore architecture, and the bamboo floors are just a hint of the stylish updates to come. Past the staircase may be the heart of the house - an enormous dining room / kitchen combo great for cooking, casual meals, or formal gatherings. The vibe, again, is a mix of original period feel, and high quality, modern updates. The kitchen was completely remodeled in the last few years, a half bath was added, as well as a sunny, cozy den. Beyond the den, through glass sliders that bathe the home in sunlight, is a reclaimed wood and iron deck, that leads to a stone patio and one car parking. The rear of the house has a modern, architectural feeling, which is an interesting juxtaposition to the classic feeling of the front of the home. Upstairs, there are three bedrooms and two full bathrooms. The front bedroom is the former "master", and is large and has good closet space and two big windows. The middle bedroom is open to the central skylight, and has been used as a nursery, an office, and a guestroom. Both these rooms have original hardwood floors, and the feel of original charm. The master bedroom and bath have been completely transformed into a modern but timeless retreat. The bedroom is very large, with new wood flooring, double closets, and floor-to-ceiling glass sliders providing sunlight galore. The master bath was added a few years ago, and feels luxurious with a large shower and even a heated floor. This bedroom has its own reclaimed wood and iron balcony, with both neighborhood views and even views to downtown and the harbor! There is also a full basement with laundry, ample space for storage and two areas for a workshop. This well-loved home, while retaining much original charm, has had many recent, important updates. The kitchen, half and master baths, central AC and heat, rear decks and den, flooring and light fixtures have all been redone over the last few years. Come fall in love with this best-of-both worlds home in a truly special location. $369,500 ACTIVE

Where should I eat?

The Hampden Neighborhood is home to one of the most unique restaurants in all of Baltimore, and it is also one of the best-reviewed ones as well. The Food Market may look like a grocery store from the outside, but that is only because in its previous life as a business it was a grocery store! This open kitchen restaurant features creative American fare and cocktails to provide for a memorable experience in a memorable place. Open for dinner only Monday through Thursday, The Food Market opens for  all three meals Friday through Sunday with a short close in between lunch and dinner to be best equipped to handle the dinner rush.  When you think Baltimore and Maryland you think crab cakes and crab and here at The Food Market you can have one of the best crab cake platters in the whole city, and the little crab pot pie is a must try as well. If you have the chance to visit for brunch on the weekends do so! The brunch menu is worth the wait.

Are you looking for a more traditional eating experience in Hampden, but still craving traditional American food? Maybe a little more focused on the coastal comfort food? Well the Avenue Kitchen and Bar is for you! This upscale yet casual eatery offers mouth watering BBQ and seafood that will put a smile to your face no matter what kind of day you may be having. Avenue Kitchen offers a unique wine flight if you are having a little difficulty pairing down wines with your favorite comfort foods. Open seven days a week for lunch and until around midnight on weekdays and one am on weekends, if you are craving a craft cocktail or some great BBQ, come on down regardless of time to Avenue Kitchen and Bar.

 Are there parks nearby?

Whether you are looking for a place to have a picnic or shoot some hoops, the Buena Vista Park on Buena Vista Avenue is an excellent place to sit back and enjoy your lunch or just a sunny day. Be sure to bring the kids as well as the park offers a playground and a swing set your kids will be sure to love. Locals love all the wide open green spaces at this park that might as well be a canvas to paint your perfect Saturday afternoon on.

 What is there to do?

Hampden is home to some of Baltimore’s most lively festivals, including the Honfest, named after the Hon character famous across the City of Baltimore, in Spetmeber they host the Hampdenfest which is a celebration of the numerous merchants and residents that call the community home and features an extremely quirky toilet bowl race and local music, and they end the year with an over the top celebration of holiday decorations up and down 34thStreet that brings visitors from all over the world to the historic community.

What places should I visit?

The bets place to visit is The Avenue, which houses so many great businesses and unique stores that have been essential in the Hampden recovery effort. You can also typically find several beautiful sidewalk art projects going on throughout 36thStreet and each of the locally owned stores and art projects beautifully capture the sense of community in this traditional village.
