The boundaries of the Mount Vernon neighborhood are a point of contention among the many groups looking to care for the historic buildings and residents. From the Mount Vernon-Belvedere Association, to the Commission for Historical and Architectural Preservation, to the Midtown Community Benefits District have different boundaries as it pertains to the area. The Mount Vernon-Belvedere Association count the boundaries as Interstate 83 to the east and north, Howard Street to the west. and Mulberry Street to the south. The Baltimore Commission for Historical Architectural Preservation use Hamilton Street as the Southern boundary and Eutaw Street as the Western boundary.

Where should I eat?

 The Mount Vernon neighborhood is home to all sorts of upscale cuisine from all corners of the globe. One of the highest rated restaurants in the area is called The Helmand, and serves Afghan cuisine. Named after the first born of the founder, The Helmand has been in business since 1989 and is celebrating thirty years in business. Be sure to try their famous Kaddo Borawni, which is baked and pan fried baby pumpkin seasoned with sugar and served atop a yogurt garlic sauce, and char-broiled lamb on top of pallow.

The Marie Louise Bistro is a French-Mediterrean restaurant that is open seven days a week for breakfast through dinner. Best referred to as causal but upscale, this bistro will pair whatever meal you are having with an excellent wine from the expansive list. A great mixture of affordable and upscale, this restaurant is a great spot to bring a date or your significant other for a night both of you are sure to remember.

Are there parks nearby?

The best park in the Mount Vernon area is the first Washington Monument park. While the monument is often the focus of the town, the adjacent park hosts the annual flower sale, which is the official start of spring each, May in the community. The monument itself is lit up every December for the start of the holiday season.

Inside the monument you will find several educational touchscreens featuring the history of the monument. You can climb the 227 stairs inside the George Washington monument to see a panoramic view of the entire City of Baltimore.

What is there to do?

Mount Vernon is one of the cultural centers of the City of Baltimore. Home to several history and art museums as well as conservatories and historic libraries, there is something for every history and art lover who visits the community.

The Walters Art Musuem is home to more than 55 centuries of art. Ranging from the great mummies of Egypt through the armor of the middle ages, to the great art of Asia and Europe throughout history. On Saturday, this museum even hosts events for children.

The Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall where the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra plays over 100 shows a year is located in Mount Vernon for the lovers great classic music. The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra is considered one of the best in the world. 

What places should I visit?

The Baltimore Basillica is the oldest Catholic cathedral in the United States and is located in Mount Vernon. It was built in the early 19thcentury from 1806-1821 and is still in operation. Beyond traditional mass, this standing landmark offers tours over the weekend to soak in as much history as you can.

The Baltimore Center Stage is the state theater of Maryland and is home to two state of the art theaters that host a wide variety of shows courtesy of the professional company. This is considered one of the top ten regional theaters in the United States.

The Maryland Historical Society can be found in Mount Vernon and is one of the most recognizable buildings in the area since they have a giant dog, Nipper from RCA, on the roof. The Enoch Pratt Library and the George Peabody libraries are two of the gems of the Mount Vernon area as well.
