More About
Otterbein, Baltimore

Location:

This neighborhood is entirely located between Hanover and Sharp Streets, as well as Barre and Henrietta Streets.

Where should I eat?

There are a lot of great restaurants in Otterbein, chief among them being Explorers, an American gastropub. Explorers features décor from around the world as the owners love to travel and it has created a unique atmosphere around the restaurant. In this causal but upscale dining option, you can have breakfast through dinner and the bar even comes with a late night menu for those looking to spend a little more time here after the meal concludes. Don’t worry about finding a place to park as Explorers offers valet parking to any paying patron for just $5.

If you want to feel bold and adventurous and move beyond typical American fare, you should check out the new ramen restaurant that is taking the community by storm. Ramen Utsuke is a new Japanese restaurant focusing on serving a diverse array of Japanese comfort foods like Kyushu-style Tonkotsu Ramen and Sapporo-style Miso Ramen. Ramen isn’t just for broke college kids anymore, and this place will have you begging for refills!

Are you a stickler for fresh food, but not sure what you want your fresh food lunch to be each day? Leave the brown paper bag at home and reach out and try The Daily Special which focuses on the freshest ingredients first and what they are going to make each day second. These experienced cooks work with Kosher items, as well as 100% beef, and if you aren’t a meat eater there is a nearly overwhelming amount of vegan options available to you. Including their famous falafel burger!

Are there parks nearby?

Since this is a small community there may be no regular parks around, but you certainly are walking distance from the old ballpark. The Orioles Camden Yards, one of the best places in all of Major League Baseball to catch a game is within walking distance and worth a trip for baseball fans and those looking to experience everything Baltimore has to offer.

What is there to do?

Otterbein is within walking distance of such much of what Baltimore has to offer. From the Baltimore Aquarium that is consistently ranked as one of the best in the nation, to the Baltimore Ravens stadium and the Orioles Camden Yards, there is something for everyone. This hidden gem of a neighborhood is one of the best kept secrets in all of Baltimore because of it’s central positioning around so much of what makes this city truly great.

What places should I visit?

If you have the time one of the most important places to visit is the Old Otterbein Church just north of the community. It is one of the oldest churches in the area and is a standing historical landmark. This is an important link from the people who helped build and sustain this neighborhood to the present day piece of historu before us.

The Baltimore Aquarium and the waterfront that surrounds it has had a lot of investment and is home to so many great restaurants and night life that is well worth the time of any traveler or anyone who loves to visit aquariums or zoos.

In the Fall, it is entirely possible to take in an Orioles game Saturday night at Camden Yards and wake up the next morning and catch a Ravens game without having to drive to and from the area. With so few arenas and fields this close to residential areas in both of the major sports, Baltimore and Otterbein are one of the only places in the country where you can experience two major professional sports teams and not need to use a vehicle to travel to either over the course of two days.
