Mount Washington is on the very edge of the northern boundary of the City of Baltimore. The boundaries of the neighborhood are 1330-1340 Smith Avenue to 1405-1407 Forge Avenue.

Where should I eat?

Mount Washington may be small but the people who make a living cooking here can pack a big city punch. One of the most popular spots in the community is Ethel’s Creole Kitchen, which is serving up some of the biggest flavors this far north of New Orleans. Here you can get that delicious, gumbo, jambalaya, and several Creole specials and enjoy them on a beautiful balcony looking over the City of Baltimore. On Sunday, this place is only open for dinner, and is closed on Monday, but Tuesday through Saturday, you can find them open for a lunch rush from 11am to 2pm, they will close for three hours and reopen for their dinner specials from 5pm through 10pm. This casual eatery will have you craving the big flavors if you eat indoors or outdoors on the balcony. The locals love the service and enjoy the warm crispy loaf of bread that comes to each and every table. In terms of food, people love the pepper appetizer and the silk pie, which have been described as must haves for any interested patron.

If Creole and gumbo aren’t your thing, no worries, Mount Washington is home to Woodrow’s BBQ, comfort food at comfortable prices with indoor or outdoor seating. Open six days a week and closed on Mondays from 11 am to 9pm, every day but Sunday where they close at 7pm. Here you can come to expect the friendly and cordial atmosphere you want in a comfort food BBQ place. The reviewers love those typical BBQ side classics in beans, potato salad and macaroni and cheese. You can count on a beautiful interior or outdoor seating to enjoy those mouth watering ribs you have been craving all day.

For forty years, this community has been visiting a tavern named after their own community and once you try it you will want to live here too. The Mount Washington Tavern has been serving up classic American fare with a raw bar for four decades and has no plans of stopping. Open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late night, you can come and enjoy a beer with your neighbors or the locals and watch an Orioles game or enjoy the camaraderie of small town life in the big city. Here the locals love the Tuesday night special on T-Bone steaks and the friendly and cordial staff. You can find all the staples of tavern food here in chicken wings, burgers, and French fries all cooked to perfection.
