HOMELAND
Homeland
Homeland as we know it has only existed for a little over 90 years, but the land that it would be built upon has fostered a sense of community from the Colonial Days of Maryland. At 391 acres, this upscale neighborhood has been the home to many prominent politicians and curators of some of the world’s most important musuems. In 2001, the neighborhood was added to the National Registry of Historic Places will over 1,000 buildings contributing to the designation.

More About
Homeland, Baltimore
Location:
Homeland is located in the northern section of the City of Baltimore. The boundaries of the community are: Charles Street on the West and Bellona Avenue and York Road on the East, Homeland Avenue to the South, and Melrose Avenue to the North. Homeland also features a “west parcel” which includes all of the houses north of the Cathedral of Mary our Queen and south of the Northern Parkway.
Where should I eat?
Homeland is home to one of the most unique places in all of Baltimore to sit back and have an incredible meal you won’t receive anywhere else. Nailah’s Kitchen is one of the very few places inside the city limits to get a classic and authentic Senegalese meal. Here you can easily sit down in the relaxed and stylish dining room or walk up the window and place an easy take out order. Open for brunch on the weekends at noon, and opening at 2:30 every day, but Monday when they are closed, this is an excellent spot to grab dinner on the go or to sit down and enjoy the company of others. Here the locals rave about the professionalism and friendliness of the staff and the incredible array of drinks. The did lamb is a favorite of those who have visited the restaurant.
Maybe Senegalese is a little bit too different for you and you are looking for something a little bit more traditional that you can find in just about any community. Homeland is home to Lake Trout and Chicken, which may not sound like it, but it is one of the best chicken places in all of Homeland and Baltimore. Grab a quick bite to eat here seven days a week and open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and into the late night hours each and every day. Here, new management has restored the restaurant to its former glory and locals have only good things to say about the chicken pizza and their chicken wings. Be sure to check out the macaroni and cheese here as well. Comfort foods at comfortable prices.
Are there parks nearby?
The Homeland neighborhood has an incredible duck pond in the center of the community which many of the locals will sit at and either feed the ducks or enjoy the nice and relaxing fountains in the pond. Here you will find families enjoying the natural setting and people out walking their dogs and maybe even letting them take a swim in the fountain. A nice refuge in the middle of an upscale neighborhood.
If you are looking to get a beautiful outdoor run in, we suggest the Chinquapin Run Park that is a narrow 76 acre park which follows a stream which adds for some natural beauty on your run. You can also bring your children to the lovely playground or participate in some athletics as the park offers numerous amenities in such a short location.
What places should I visit?
As a National Historic Site, there is a lot of history to be taken in and learned from throughout the Homeland Community. Here you will find excellent architecture and significant houses from across the growth of the community. Since Homeland has taken serious steps to ensure its community remains historically significant each and every property shines a light on America’s past.
There are several significant buildings and statues throughout the community like the Wildflower Statue which originated her, and has been copied throughout the country and is a common fixture in gardens.
You should also be sure to visit the Church of the Redeemer, which is a historic property having been built in 1855.
