Catonsville is roughly 14 square miles and is located on Frederick Road or Maryland Route 144. The north and northeastern borders of the community are Johnnycake Road (named after the famous food of the region back in Colonial Times) and Academy Road respectively. The community is bordered by Woodlawn to the north, Arbetus to the southeast, Ilchester to the southwest, Baltimore City to the East, and Ellicot City to the West.

Where should I eat?

There is no better testament to a neighborhood than the mom and pop Italian restaurant. No matter where you go or who you go there with, you know you can rely on an Italian restaurant to give you a filling meal at a great cost and the gem of Cantonsville, Franco’s Italian Bistro Cantonsville, is no different. A family institution and bistro that features old school hand tossed pizzas and a full bar n a relaxed and casual setting. Here you can rely on a friendly and attentive staff serving up fresh pies that toe the line between soft and flaky crust with just the right amount of crunch. If you are not in the mood for a pizza, the locals swear by their sandwiches too. You can count on Franco’s being open seven days a week, opening for lunch at 11am and staying open through 9pm, except for Fridays and Saturdays, where the place is open until 10pm.

Lets face it, you probably did not come all the way to Maryland and to Baltimore County to not try the world famous seafood. It is what the area is known for in the culinary world, so you will want to stop by Catonsville Gourmet, the best seafood place in the area! This restaurant is bring your own booze and focuses on the finest cuts of seafood and delivers them in a nautical themed dining area. The locals love the crab and lobster dip as an appetizer and then tend to follow that up with the halibut as their seafood entrée. You can find Catonsville Gourmet open seven days a week to satisfy your seafood craving. Six days a week the restaurant opens for lunch at 11:30 and stays open until 9pm, except for Friday and Saturday where they stay open for another hour until 10pm. Sunday, you can get there for brunch at 9am and the restaurant operates continuously for 12 hours until 9pm.

The Catonsville Community Park serves as a central location for the neighborhood. Here you will find a playground for the little ones, as well as ball fields, tennis courts, and volleyball courts to get a few games in with your friends on a lazy afternoon. You will also find great trails in the woods to get a run in or just enjoy the quiet of nature in this oasis away from the hustle and bustle of the outside world.

What is there to do?

Catonsville isn’t just the Music City of Maryland, it is also the Upset City of America! It is the home of the University of Maryland Baltimore County, or UMBC, the first ever 16 seed in the NCAA March Madness Tournament to eliminate a number one seed. If you have the opportunity while you are in town, you should stop by the arena and check out their up and coming basketball team!

You will also find a plethora of places to hike among the natural beauty of Maryland. Cantonsville is home to many wildlife areas and preserved forests. The Hilton Area Hiking grounds are available to everyone and is beautiful and scenic location to take the children for a walk or spend the day hiking with your dog.
