Butchers Hill
The name Butcher’s Hill comes from the community’s rich past as a place for immigrants. This neighborhood has existed since before the Civil War and has a portion of its community on the National Register of Historic Places. Today, the community is best known for its proximity to the Johns Hopkins Medical Center and Johns Hopkins University. Butcher’s Hill is also known as an up and coming arts community for those looking to establish themselves in the Baltimore area.

Where should I eat?
You come to Baltimore and Maryland with one thing on your, where can I get some of those world famous Baltimore Crabs and some fresh right off the boat seafood? Well if you’re in Butcher’s Hill look no further than a place call Angie’s Seafood. This casual seafood place is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner and stays open most night till midnight at the earliest. Reviewers have raved about the fried shrimp and crab dip as an excellent appetizer to get the night going. The raw food bar is a can’t miss option as well.
Are you looking for something a little different on your trip? Maybe you aren’t a big seafood person? Then let us recommend a little Indian place called Tandav Indian Cuisine, one of the highest rated places in all of Butcher’s Hill. Open for lunch, and then closed for a few hours before re-opening for dinner, Tandav has an excellent Indian lunch buffet, and one of their top dishes is the Tandoor Platter. Unfortunately, you can’t start your week with this place as they are closed on Mondays.

Are there parks nearby?
Patterson Park is the oldest park in all of Baltimore, being gifted to the city by a wealthy shipping merchant, William Patterson in 1827. The gift was also the first time land was gifted to the City of Baltimore for the purposes of public recreation. The park served the Union Army has both a camp and an Army hospital. This large and beautiful park is home to incredible architecture and several sports fields. The boathouse and pagoda were both built in the 19thcentury, and this is one of two parks in all of Baltimore with an ice skating rink.

Patterson Park has something for everyone with two playgrounds and a kiddie pool available to children, you can bring the kids with you as you run or enjoy the beautiful architecture available to you in the park. Enjoy a picnic with your family at either of the two picnic areas or anywhere else in the park. There is no shortage of open space available to you. There are ten tennis courts and five basketball courts in addition to nine athletic fields, pool, and ice rink. For seniors, there is an adult daycare facility for those looking to pass the time in the beauty of one of Baltimore’s great parks.

Johns Hopkins University is a major part of the community and you can take in several collegiate sporting events from the community as well.
